Following talks with London Underground, the ASLEF Executive Committee has agreed to call of the strike action planned at Barking depot which covers the District and Hammersmith and City and Circle lines. Strike action was due to take place on January 10th after train drivers voted by 85% in favour of action. This dispute was a result of heavy handed management trying to ignore company wide agreements . Despite attempts by our reps to resolve these issues through the agreed machinery, senior management refused to intervene until our members showed they were ready to strike. The solidarity of our members and the determination of our reps means that we have now successfully resolved the issues in dispute and ensured that agreements are adhered to. But once again, London Underground management failed to act to resolve industrial issues quickly at local level forcing us to threaten action to get them around the table. This is not the approach to industrial relations thatour city needs. Finn Brennan ASLEF District Organiser.
