Mayday Strike on Tramlink

ASLEF members on Croydon Tramlink will strike again on Wednesday May 1st as they continue their fight for fair pay and working conditions.

ASLEF members gave 100% solid support when they went on strike for the first ever time on March 28th with large numbers taking part in picketing during the day. A skeleton service on one route only was operated by managers.

Instead of sitting down with us to find a resolution and avoid further disruption, management at FirstGroup have continued to alienate staff and have made relationships worse.

ASLEF have kept in contact with ACAS and have been ready to talk at any time, but so far management just aren’t interested.

FirstGroup seem to think that having had just one day of strike action our members will simply give up. They have seriously underestimated their determination to achieve a fair settlement that deals with the underlying issues we have highlighted, fair pay, quality time off to reduce fatigue, proper consultation and respect at work.

Our members voted by over 99% to take action on a turnout of 90%, a massive rejection of the company’s offer and a clear demonstration of their strength of feeling.

The ASLEF Executive Committee has called further strike action for May 9th and 23rd. These and other dates will be kept under review to make sure our action is as effective as possible so that this dispute can be brought to a successful conclusion.
