We have had enquiries from several Night Tube train operators about working Boxing Day nights (26 December) and New Year’s Eve nights and what enhanced payments are paid.
Contrary to misleading information from another trade union claiming that there are no payments this is absolutely not the case.
The agreements for enhanced payments, reached between the Company and ASLEF, following 3 years of successful industrial action, are clear. If any train operator works Boxing Day (26 December) they receive an enhanced payment. If any train operator works New Year’s Eve nights they receive an enhanced payment.
Boxing Day (26 December)
If a train service operates through the night on Boxing Day (26 December), when it falls on a Friday or Saturday night, then it will be covered by Night Tube train operators on Night Tube lines.
Boxing Day working currently attracts an additional £350 per shift, or £592.56 including the Night Tube daily rate. Only ASLEF is currently in the process of negotiating a significant increase in this amount as part of our pay claim*.
This next occurs on: Saturday 26 December 2020 and Friday 26 December 2025
New Year’s Eve Nights
If New Year’s Eve falls on either a Friday or Saturday then Night Tube train operators on Night Tube lines will be rostered to work night duties unless they request an annual leave day.
The remaining night duties to be worked on these lines will then be allocated to full-time train operators as per existing agreements (Special Working Arrangements Guidance).
New Year’s Eve night working currently attracts an additional payment. For an 8-hour night duty, not involving a change of rest day, on New Year’s Eve 2018/19 this was £451.95, or £694.51 including the Night Tube daily rate.
This next occurs on: Friday 31 December 2021 and Saturday 31 December 2022
