2024 Underground pay award now agreed.

The ASLEF Executive Committee has now formally agreed acceptance of the 2024 pay and conditions offer from London Underground. The key points of the offer are;

·         A pay award of 3.8% plus a consolidated increase of £450. This is equivalent to a 4.5% increase for train drivers.

·         All pay bands minimum and maximum rangers will also increase by 3.8% plus £450.

·         An additional 5 days paternity leave to three weeks in total, backdated to April 2024.

·         Protection of earnings for staff medically redeployed to TfL roles.

·         Service in infracos recognised for retirement staff travel benefits.

·         By January 2025 the company will set out a proposal for delivering an average four-day working week with a paid meal relief included in working hours for train drivers.

The company have confirmed that the “agreement date” is December 10th 2024. That means that everyone employed at this date will receive the pay award backdated to April 2024. This will be paid in the February (MATS) and March (Ops) payrolls.

It has taken 10 months over numerous meetings and announcing strike action to negotiate this agreement. As management refused to agree a multi-year offer, we will be submitting our claim for 2025 in the New Year.

Now that these elements have been agreed, we will move to detailed discussions on the move to a four-day week with a paid meal relief for train operators. This will be a complex discussion as it means changes to all current rosters and negotiating the new four-day week agreements.

Your ASLEF reps are determined to make this happen as quickly as possible. As anyone currently on a four-day week will tell you, it makes a huge difference to quality of life. In effect you will have 52 more rest days every year, meaning much more quality time away from work, as well as saving on childcare and travel costs. It will bring Underground drivers in line with rest of the industry. We hope that all parties to the discussions will act in the genuine interests of our grade.

This is a genuinely ground breaking offer which has been achieved by the hard work  and solidarity of  our members and reps at all levels. I want to place on record my thanks to the EC member for District 8 Gary Comfort and the ASLEF Trains Council for their efforts in making this progress.

Strike action by our members in Transplant and the votes for action by member in Test Trains and management grades were also important to our success.  The final agreement includes provision for negotiating a roadmap towards a restructured working week enhancing work life balance for members in these grades which we will actively pursue.

Full updates will be given at your ASLEF branch meeting.
