Huge YES vote by ASLEF members on London Underground to strike on pay and conditions.

ASLEF members on London Underground have voted by a massive 98.8% margin in favour of industrial action as we pursue a fair settlement on pay and working conditions.

An agreement on pay should have been reached and implemented by last April, but more than six months later, management are still refusing to engage with key elements of our claim.

They are insisting on a below inflation pay rise this year and tying future rises to the lower CPIH inflation rate. This would mean lower pay rises year after year, cutting your living standards and affecting your pension benefits.

They refuse to even discuss a reduction in the working week that would enable a move towards the four-day week that is now standard for drivers on all other train operating companies. And they are insisting that any movement in pay bands will be entirely at the company’s discretion.

Management cancelled the previously arranged meetings on pay and conditions but have now scheduled talks for tomorrow (Tuesday Oct 8th). ASLEF will attend and again put the case for a fair deal, but we cannot continue indefinitely with no progress being made.

Unless London Underground are prepared to make a reasonable offer, that deals with the issues in our pay claim, then the negotiating team will have no other option than to ask the ASLEF Executive Committee to consider calling strike action.

A further report will be sent out after tomorrow’s meeting.
