On Tuesday evening London Underground wrote to the trade unions with a change to their previous position on pay bands.
These are the ranges within which the salaries of management, admin and “higher grades” are set. LU now say that they are prepared to increase these bands in line with the general pay award of 3.8% plus £450.
This will be welcome news for all those in the grades affected. Increasing pay bands in line with the pay award was part of the ASLEF claim. It is also good to see large pay increases for CSA and CSA 2 grades.
But there is nothing new in this pay offer for train drivers or Instructor Operators. It leaves you working more days per week and longer hours than drivers on the Elizabeth line or London Overground for less money.
Once again London Underground train drivers interests are being ignored so that money can be made available for bigger pay rises for management grades and those who work in comfortable offices instead of the cab of a train.
ASLEF have rejected this offer and informed management that our notified industrial action will go ahead. You can see our letter below.
We have been crystal clear throughout the negotiations that we want real improvements in conditions for train drivers and we will remain in dispute and will take action until this is achieved.
We are not prepared to see drivers sacrificed so that others can be satisfied.
I will update you on any developments and look forward to joining you on the ASLEF picket lines as we fight for a fair deal for drivers

ASLEF District Organiser.
